Twitter gave Eli Apple the business after Sunday Night Football performance

Miami Dolphins cornerback Eli Apple has built a reputation in the NFL primarily with his mouth. He’s usually running it and has been surrounded by controversy pretty much since he entered the league in 2016. The only problem is Apple’s words don’t always match his production on the field. Apple’s game was on display Sunday night against the Philadelphia Eagles, and let’s just say he came up short again.

Prior to Sunday night’s game, Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith tweeted, “Every time I see Eli apple 1 on, 1 i shake my head.” Apple spent all game zig-zagging across the field, trying to guard Philly’s receivers with little luck. The Eagles’ scheme had Apple looking dazed and confused, to say the least.

Since Apple has a reputation as a loudmouth, fans used this as another opportunity to let Mr. Apple know how they feel. However, it wasn’t all bad; at least one Bengals fan in the sea of comments wanted Apple back in Cincy. But the overwhelming majority was getting their jabs in at Apple for getting smoked all night.

The fact that Apple talks and carries himself like he’s on the level of Sauce Gardner, Jalen Ramsey, or any other top CB in the NFL irritates many fans. Most feel he isn’t on that level, never has been, and likely never will be. This is Apple’s eighth year in the league. He’s played on five teams and has never been selected to the Pro Bowl.

Yet, his mouth has been All-Pro at times, but everyone is still waiting to see that on the field. One fan even posted a lowlight reel of Apple, mostly from his time in New Orleans, but felt it still applied.

Oh lordy, you folks on X are creative, that’s for sure. Obviously, the loss to Philly can’t entirely be blamed on Apple, but try convincing fans on social media of that. They had fun poking Apple before, during, and after the game, and it’s hard to say they were wrong based on how much talking he’s done throughout his career. Apple brings these reactions on himself, so it’s hard to feel sorry for him once he’s roasted.
