Declyn “Dex” Lauper, the son of music icon Cyndi Lauper, found himself in legal trouble once again after allegedly being caught with a gun and drugs following a shooting incident in Harlem on Wednesday night.
Law enforcement sources reported that police were investigating the area around 135 W. 112th St following a shooting where a 24-year-old man was shot in the leg outside an apartment building around 7:15 p.m. Approximately 15 minutes after the shooting, NYPD officers discovered Declyn Lauper near the building in possession of a gun and unspecified drugs.
While it’s unclear if Lauper’s arrest is directly linked to the shooting, he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
This isn’t the first time Declyn Lauper has faced legal issues. In 2022, he accepted a plea deal to avoid jail time after being arrested with a stolen Mercedes outside a rapper’s memorial. As part of the deal, he pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct and was ordered by a Manhattan judge to complete five days of community service and maintain a clean record for one year.
Declyn Lauper, who has aspirations in the music industry like his mother, Cyndi Lauper, mentioned in a statement to The Post after his previous legal issue that he and his mother had recorded a few songs together.
As of Thursday night, Declyn Lauper was awaiting arraignment at Manhattan Criminal Court.
